Williams College Class of 2003 Announces Election of Officers

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., July 10, 2003–Williams College has announced the election of its Class of 2003 Officers, who will serve as alumni officers for their class until 2008.

Robert L. Sica a history major from Westbury, N.Y., was elected president, and Danielle S. Lapin, a comparative literature major from Millburn, N.J., was elected vice president of the class. The secretary will be Sumant R. Bhat, an economics and psychology double major fromHinsdale, Ill., and Daniel J. Klasik, a mathematics and psychology double major from Claremont, Calif. will be treasurer.

Lindi D. von Mutius, a history major from Natick, Mass. was elected class historian and presented the class history at the college’s traditional student Ivy Exercises. Class poet Emily R. Martin, an English major from Dothan, Ala. and winner of the American Academy of Poets competition at Williams, contributed the class poem. The Ivy Exercises were further embellished by a musical composition from class musician Matthew C. Swan, a music major from Ipswich, Mass.

Aaron R. Jenkins, a political science major from Washington, D.C., was elected class speaker. Jenkins addressed the Class of 2003 at the Commencement ceremonies on June 8. In his speech, titled “We Have Come This Far,” Jenkins urged his classmates to celebrate their individualism and varied success, to inspire others, and to “actively engage life not only because it is a beautiful thing that can end at a moment’s notice but also because we have only one life to live.”

The class marshals elected to lead the processional were Jordan N. Goldwarg, a history major from Westmont, Quebec, Ching H. Ho, an economics and psychology double major from Binghamton, N.Y., Freeden Oeur, an anthropology major from Springfield, Va., Jennifer L. Roizen, a chemistry major from Fayetteville, N.Y., and Healy F. Thompson, an economics major from Chicago, Ill.

The Class of 2003 agents, responsible for coordinating fundraising activities, are Robert F. Baldwin, a political science and economics double-major from Alexandria, Va., Whitney E. Gee, a French major from Kansas City, Mo., and Edwin H. May, an economics major from Wethersfield, Conn.
