Scott Spencer Will Read from New Novel

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., Oct. 23, 2001–Writer Scott Spencer will read from his new novel on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m. in Griffin Hall, room 3.

Among his best-known works are “Endless Love,” “Waking the Dead,” and “Men in Black.” Spencer won the National Book Award in 1980 for “Endless Love.” His novels appeared in the New York Times- Notable Books list for 1980, 1986, 1990, 1993, and 1998.

“Endless Love” was made into a film in 1981, directed by Franco Zeffirelli and starring Brooke Shields.

Spencer has had other experience in the film industry and has worked with such stars as Robert Redford, Jodie Foster, and Tom Cruise.

His short fiction has appeared in GQ, Rolling Stone, and Louder Than Words; his articles have appeared in The Sunday New York Times, Harper’s, Esquire, The New Yorker, and Columbia magazines.

He is Margaret Bundy Scott Visiting Professor of English at Williams during the fall term and teaches an introductory workshop in fiction.

The reading is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in Stetson Faculty Lounge.
