WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., April 28, 2003 — Marvin S. Soroos, the Class of 1946 Visiting Professor of Global Environment and Economy at Williams, will deliver a lecture on “Perspectives on Emerging Global Order: From the End of History to the End of Nature.” The lecture is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in Griffin Hall, room 7.

Soroos specializes in international relations, specifically in international environmental law and policy, and in global atmospheric issues, including as climate change, ozone depletion, and trans-boundary air pollution.

At Williams, Soroos has been teaching “Managing Global Commons.” He is the author of numerous books and monographs including “The Endangered Atmosphere: Preserving a Global Commons,” on which the Williams course is based.

His book, “Beyond Sovereignty: the Challenge of Global Policy,” received the Distinguished Research Publication Award in the Social Sciences. His 1994 article “Polar Politics: Creating International Environmental Regimes” received the Harold and Margaret Sprout Award for the best contribution to the literature of international environmental politics.

In addition to teaching political science and public administration at North Carolina State University, he has been a visiting researcher at the International Peace Research Institute in Oslo and visiting researcher at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo.

After receiving a B.A. in government from Dartmouth College, Soroos received his Ph.D. in political science from Northwestern University.
