WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., October 4, 2001 — The Milham Planetarium at Williams College has announced the opening of its fall planetarium show, “It’s O Right Zambia: The June 2001 Solar Eclipse Expedition.” The show includes a short video on the Williams College expedition and the eclipse, as well as a tour of the constellations visible in the fall sky in Williamstown.

The planetarium show is offered throughout the fall semester on Friday evenings through December 1. Doors will open at 7:10 p.m. for the viewing of exhibits in the Mehlin Museum, with the show beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m.

The Mehlin Museum of Astronomy currently features exhibits detailing dazzling new results from the Chandra X-Ray Space Telescope and Hubble Space Telescope and important new discoveries on Mars. Also, on display are several astronomical telescopes and clocks dating back to the mid-1800’s, several meteorites, and other exhibits of astronomical interest.

The planetarium show is given rain or shine. If the weather is clear, the show will be followed by observing with the Hopkins Observatory’s 24-inch telescope, located atop the Thompson Physics and Astronomy Laboratory.

The show was designed and produced by Williams students Gabriel Brammer, Michael Gioiello, Chris Holmes and Max Niederste-Ostholt.

The Milham Planetarium and Mehlin Museum of Astronomy are located just south of Route 2 in the Old Hopkins Observatory in the Berkshire Quad at Williams College. Seating space is limited and reservations for shows are highly recommended. They can be obtained by calling (413) 597-2188.

Due to renovations to the Williams College Museum of Art driveway (Lawrence Hall Dr.) on route 2, visitors are encouraged to park in the visitor lot behind Thompson Chapel across the street from the Old Hopkins Observatory.
