Community Invited to Williams Family Days Events

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., Oct. 23, 2001–Seven hundred parents will be visiting Williams College this weekend for the college’s First Year Family Days, October 26-28. The weekend gives families of first year students an opportunity to become acquainted with student life, the campus and Williamstown.

Activities planned for the weekend include special lectures, musical and theatrical performances, museum and library tours, hikes, and religious services. The public is cordially invited to attend the following events.

Faculty Lecture

A faculty member from each of the three divisions of the college – Languages and the Arts, Social Studies, and Science and Mathematics – will discuss teaching, research, and scholarship. The presentation is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 26, at 2:50 p.m. in Wege Auditorium in The Science Center.

Performances

The Berkshire Symphony will be performing in Chapin Hall, Friday Oct. 26, at 8 p.m. Admission is free. The Williams Jazz Ensemble will perform also in Chapin Hall on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m.

The Williamstheatre will present Federico Garcia Lorca’s “Yerma” on Friday, Oct. 26, and Saturday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m. in the MainStage of the Adams Memorial Theatre. Tickets are $4/$2 with a Williams College ID. For more information, please call (413) 597-2425.

Hikes

There will be a leisurely hike on the Hopkins Memorial Forest Lower Loop Trail on Saturday, Oct. 27, beginning at 2 p.m. and finishing about 3:30 p.m. Meet at the Rosenburg Center in the forest to join in.

On Sunday, Oct. 28, at 7 a.m. there will be an on-campus bird walk led by the Williams Outing Club. Meet at the Chapin Hall steps.

Religious Services

“And Sure Stars Shining…” a multi-faith worship service about hope led by the college chaplains and the Williams College Concert Choir is on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 9:30 a.m.
