Sixteen Williams College Students and Alumni Awarded Fulbright Grants

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., May 15, 2013—Sixteen Williams College students and alumni were awarded Fulbright grants. Of these students and alumni, five will receive one-year grants to conduct research outside of the United States. Eleven will hold English Teaching Assistantships (ETA), also to countries outside of the United States. ETAs aim to help local students increase their English language skills and their knowledge of the United States, while allowing Fulbright scholars to develop a deeper understanding of their host countries.

This was a great year for Fulbright candidates from Williams. We are particularly proud of the grants to Ireland and the U.K., which are exceptionally competitive.”

The Fulbright winners from Williams College are:

Christina Adelakun ’13, a Chinese major from Lawrenceville, Ga., has been awarded a Fulbright ETA grant to Taiwan.

Lauren Agoubi ’13, a chemistry major from San Antonio, Texas, has been awarded a Fulbright research grant to Ireland.

Eva Breitenbach ’10, a history major from Cambridge, Mass., has been awarded a Fulbright ETA grant to India.

Elissa Brown ’09, a psychology major from Boone, N.C., has been awarded a Fulbright research grant to Norway.

Taylor Bundy ’13, an English and philosophy major from Lancaster, Pa., has been awarded a Fulbright ETA grant to Costa Rica.

Gordon Crabtree ’08, a psychology major from Philadelphia, Pa., has been awarded a Fulbright ETA grant to Malaysia.

Jack Fitzhenry ’12, an English major from New Brunswick, N.J., has been awarded a Fulbright ETA grant to Germany.

Curtis Flournoy ’11, a political science major from Denton, Texas, has been awarded a Fulbright ETA grant to South Africa.

Hannah Kaemmer ’13, a history major from Concord, Mass., has been awarded a Fulbright research grant to the United Kingdom.

Cindy La Rosa ’11, a political science major from Union City, N.J., has been awarded a Fulbright ETA grant to Spain.

Jennifer Law ’13, an English major from Denver, Colo., has been awarded a Fulbright ETA grant to South Korea.

Jose Martinez ’10, a history major from San Juan, Puerto Rico, has been awarded a Fulbright research grant to Jordan.

Reema Sharma ’13, an English and political science major from Staten Island, N.Y., has been awarded a Fulbright ETA grant to Malaysia.

Vanessa Soetanto ’12, an art major from East Moriches, N.Y., has been awarded a Fulbright ETA grant to Mongolia.

Carrie Tribble ’13, a biology and environmental studies major from Honolulu, Hawaii, has been awarded a Fulbright research grant to Peru.

Carly Valenzuela ’13, a history and political science major from San Diego, Calif., has been awarded a Fulbright ETA grant to South Korea.

The Fulbright Program is funded by the Department of State and is the largest international exchange program in the United States. It was established by the U.S. Congress in 1946 and offers various grants in research and teaching for students, scholars, and professionals.
