Winfried Fuchshofen to Speak about Fair Trade and Sustainability

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., October 17, 2014—Winfried Fuchshofen will present “The Evolution of Fair Trade and the Role of the Fair Trade Sustainability Alliance” at Williams College on Thursday, Oct. 23. This event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Griffin Hall, room 3.

In his presentation, he will discuss competing models of fair trade and offer a tasting of Grenada chocolate produced in accordance with FairTSA criteria.

Fuchshofen is the executive director and co-founder of the Fair Trade Sustainability Alliance (FairTSA), a nonprofit organization promoting fair trade and sustainable community development. The organization was created in 2009 and uses a market-based approach to connect farmers and producers to a global network of ethically minded buyers. Fuchshofen holds a Ph.D. in ecological agriculture and an M.Sc. in environmental science from the University of Kassel, Germany.

This event is sponsored by the Sustainable Food and Agriculture Program as a part of the college’s Food Week from Oct. 19 to Oct. 26.
