WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., September 16, 2015—Local residents are invited to the annual Fall Festival at the Hopkins Forest in Williamstown, Sunday, Sept. 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. This event celebrates the changing of the seasons and the bounty of our wooded environments and features music, apple butter and cider production, refreshments, a canopy walkway, an active honey bee hive, and children’s activities including a crafts table. There will also be hands-on activities including traditional shake-splitting and a cross-cut saw competition.

The 2600-acre Hopkins Forest—most of which was donated to the college in the 1930s by the family of Colonel Amos Lawrence Hopkins—has been actively managed by Williams College for teaching and research endeavors for more than 40 years.  In addition, the Forest has an array of hiking and cross-country ski trails, along with a visitor center, an herb garden, and a maple sugaring operation. At this year’s festival, visitors will be able to take home a small piece of the forest as local native tree seedlings, ready for fall planting, will be on sale.

The festival is free to the public and appropriate for all ages. Those unable to visit the festival are invited to visit Hopkins Forest another time. It is located at the junction of Northwest Hill Road and Bulkley Street in Williamstown, and is open daily during daylight hours.  For more information on the forest and related activities, contact the forest manager at 597-4353.
