WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., April 25, 2016—Singer-songwriters Dar Williams, Bernice Lewis, and Lucy Davis ’16 will perform at Williams College on Sunday, May 1, at 7 p.m. in Goodrich Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Williams has been called “one of America’s very best singer/songwriters” by The New Yorker. She’s gone from playing small coffee shops to touring the folk festival circuit, performing and recording with the likes of Ani DiFranco and Joan Baez. Williams has released nine studio albums, most recently Emerald (2015), and authored three books. Her songs often focus on themes of social justice, universal truth and the struggle. Williams was born in Mount Kisco, N.Y., and grew up in Chappaqua. She began playing the guitar at age nine and wrote her first song two years later; however, she was more interested in drama at the time, and majored in theater and religion at Wesleyan University.

Bernice Lewis has been a national touring artist for more than three decades. Her performing resume includes almost every grassroots and established venue in the United States, including the Kerrville Folk Festival, the Winnipeg Folk Festival, and the Kennedy Center. She is a singer/songwriter, a published poet, a recording artist with six albums, and an educator. Lewis has worked with Bobby McFerrin, Rosanne Cash, the Dixie Chicks, Christine Lavin, Patty Griffin, and many more. For five summers, she was the campus bard at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, N.Y. In 2009, she was awarded an artist in residence position by the National Park Service. She is currently the artist associate in songwriting at Williams College, where she has taught songwriting and performing for 20 years. Her alumni include Darlingside, Caitlin Canty, and Molly Venter of Red Molly.

Lucy Davis ’16 is a singer/songwriter who writes songs for guitar and voice in the acoustic tradition. A philosophy and psychology major at Williams, Davis was born in Manhattan and grew up in Westchester, N.Y. She has worked closely with Lewis on her songwriting since her freshman year. Davis is a regular at the Williams’ Coffeehouse series, and opened for Joe Crookston as part of The Contemporary American Songwriter series in 2013. She performs locally at The Log, recently as part of the 2016 Billstock festival. Davis is president of the a cappella group Ephlats. After graduation, Lucy plans to pursue a music career in Boston.

The All Acoustic Alliance and the Entertainment Committee is sponsoring the event.
