Joe Peek to Give Economics Lecture at Williams College

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., November 1, 2013—Joe Peek, a vice president in the research department and head of the finance section of the Boston Federal Reserve Bank, will give a lecture at Williams College titled “Monetary Policy and the Financial Crisis: What Were They Thinking?” on Monday, Nov. 11. The lecture will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Griffin Hall, room 3. This event is free and open to the public.

Peek, an international expert on monetary and financial policy, will discuss the federal dual mandate, how conventional monetary policy is conducted, how the federal government reacted to the financial crisis and the Great Recession, and why unconventional monetary policies were necessary.

In addition to his work in the Boston Federal Reserve, Peek serves as a research associate at Columbia University’s Center on the Japanese Economy and Business and as an associate editor of the Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking. His current research interests are in financial stability, macro prudential regulation, international banking, Japanese banking issues, and monetary policy.
