Filmmaker Paul Stekler to Screen Latest Documentary and Host Q&A

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., September 30, 2013—Williams College will host a screening of the film Getting Back to Abnormal at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, at Images Cinema. A Q&A with filmmaker Paul Stekler ’74 will follow the screening. The event is free and open to the public.

Getting Back to Abnormal looks at the state of New Orleans politics and culture more than five years after Hurricane Katrina. Set in the context of the 2009-10 local political season, the election of the first white mayor in a generation, and the triumph of the Saints football team, the documentary film explores issues of race in the city.

Stekler is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and currently serves as the Wofford Denius Chair in Entertainment Studies at the University of Texas in Austin. Stekler’s films include the Sundance Special Jury Prize Winner George Wallace: Settin’ the Woods on Fire, Last Man Standing: Politics Texas Style, and Frontline’s The Choice 2008. Stekler has two Peabody awards, three Columbia/duPont awards, and three national Emmy awards. He received his B.A. from Williams College in 1974 and his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1982.
